well, we are finally here. the last leg of our trip and i am quite sad to be nearing the end. so is carlos. we want to press restart and do it all agian. he's off at the british history museum and i've decided to stay at the hotel to relax in a bath and try to take care of my body. the past few days have been really rough. the travel hasn't been as rough as it was in italy, but for some reason starting wednesday my ankles have been swollen. probably a combination of shoes not proper for so much walking and all of the walking. my nice sporty shoes don't even help at this point. it really bums me out because we only have a few days left and i've booked us a room at my hotel which is in the legendary literary part of london known as bloomsbury. carlos studied literature in college, so it was a surprise for him. i wanted him to walk the streets where virginia woolf, t.s. elliot and many other literaries walked.
i have a deejay gig tonight. my first outside of texas actually! i love to spin records and have been a deejay off and on (radio and club) since 1992. got my start at texas tech university. my ankles hurt terribly. it may be worth it to take a cab to the club tonight. i'm a bit nervous about taking the tube (london underground) today anyway since it is the 1-year anniversary of the 2nd round of bombings of london transport. we rode the tube with no problems last night to an area called covent garden. it's where some of my favorite shops and restaurants are located. i wanted to take carlos to this vegetarian brazilian restaurant. he noticed all of the brazilian places in amsterdam, but didn't push for us to eat at any of them because he is sensitive to my diet (sweet man). so i surprised him last night by taking him to neal's yard. it's a little cluster of food stops and natural remedy shops. we will head back that way tomorrow since the stores were already closed when we arrived last night. the legendary rough trade records shop is not even a block away and i know we will enjoy a stop in there.
anyway, i was just passing the time down here in the library area of the hotel where they have 3 computers with printers for guests to use. there is complimentary tea/coffe and water down here too. nice. our room was being cleaned when i went back up about 10 mintues ago to soak in the tub. we still have one of our bath bombs left and i'm hoping it will soothe my ankles.
